The model describes the layer as a continuous density field coupled to the pinning potential of the substrate and under an external driving force. Dynamical equations which take into account both thermal fluctuations and inertial effects are used for numerical simulations of commensurate and incommensurate layers. At low temperatures, the velocity response of an initially commensurate layer shows hysteresis with dynamical melting and freezing transitions at different critical forces. The main features of the sliding friction behavior are similar to the results obtained previously from molecular dynamics simulations of particle models. However, the dynamical transitions correspond to nucleations of stripes rather than closed domains. %N 1 %T Nonlinear response and dynamical transitions in a phase-field crystal model for adsorbed overlayers %@electronicmailaddress %@electronicmailaddress enzo@las.inpe.br %@secondarytype PRE PI %K Condensed matter: structural, mechanical & thermal,Chemisorption/physisorption: adsorbates on surfaces, Solid–liquid transitions, Friction, tribology, and hardness, Pq Friction, lubrication, and wear. %@archivingpolicy denypublisher denyfinaldraft12 %@usergroup administrator %@usergroup lattes %@usergroup marciana %@group LAS-CTE-INPE-MCT-BR %@group LAS-CTE-INPE-MCT-BR %3 granato.pdf %@secondarykey INPE--PRE/ %@secondarymark C_ASTRONOMIA_/_FÍSICA B4_CIÊNCIA_DA_COMPUTAÇÃO C_CIÊNCIAS_BIOLÓGICAS_II C_ENGENHARIAS_I B3_ENGENHARIAS_II C_ENGENHARIAS_III B1_INTERDISCIPLINAR B3_MATERIAIS C_QUÍMICA %F lattes: 4783853572061597 1 RamosGrYiAcElAl:2010:NoReDy %@issn 1742-6588 %2 dpi.inpe.br/plutao/2010/11.11.16.24.29 %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) Departamento de Ciências Exatas, Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia, 45000-000 Vitória da Conquista, BA, Brazil %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@affiliation Department of Physics, PO Box 1843, Brown University, Providence, RI 02912-1843, USA %@affiliation Department of Applied Physics, Aalto University School of Science and Technology, PO Box 11000, FI-00076 Aalto, Espoo, Finland %@affiliation Institut für Theoretische Physik II: Weiche Materie, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, Universitätsstraße 1, D-40225 Düsseldorf, Germany %@affiliation Department of Physics, Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan 48309-4487, USA %B Journal of Physics: Conference Series %@versiontype publisher %P 12024 %4 dpi.inpe.br/plutao/2010/11.11.16.24.28 %@documentstage not transferred %D 2010 %V 246 %@doi 10.1088/1742-6596/246/1/012024 %O 11th Latin American Workshop on Nonlinear Phenomena, LAWNP'09 %A Ramos, Jorge Anderson Paiva, %A Granato, Enzo, %A Ying, S C, %A Achim, C V, %A Elder, K R, %A Ala-Nissila, T, %@dissemination WEBSCI; PORTALCAPES; COMPENDEX. %@area FISMAT
