However, positive strokes are in average much more intense than the negative strokes. Intense peak current and long continuing current are usually present in the same stroke. Therefore, positive flashes are responsible for more intense damage than the negative ones. Positive flashes often are preceded by significant and long duration intracloud (IC) discharge activity. The objective of this work is to study the electric field signature of these discharges preceding the positive return stroke. Particularly, it will study: breakdown waveforms, breakdown rise time, breakdown pulse train, time interval between pulses in a pulse train, time interval between initial breakdown and return stroke. Recordings from electric field sensors will be used to analyze the intracloud discharge preceding the positive return strokes occurring in Brazil between 2003 and 2011. %T Characterization of intracloud discharges preceding positive cloud-to-ground lightning strokes in Brazil %@electronicmailaddress raphael_bueno_guedes@yahoo.com.br %@electronicmailaddress %@electronicmailaddress carina.schumann@gmail.com %@tertiarytype Paper %@secondarytype PRE CN %K positive, lightning, electric field. %8 08-12 Aug %@usergroup lattes secretaria.cpa@dir.inpe.br %@group DGE-CEA-INPE-MCT-BR %@group CST-CST-INPE-MCT-BR %@group DGE-CEA-INPE-MCT-BR %@e-mailaddress carina.schumann@gmail.com %3 R.
