abstract = "Reduction in the populations of the Amazonian manatee Trichechus
inunguis, due mainly to over-fishery, was drastic to the point
that they were included amongst important Brazilian and
International lists of endangered species. The study of its
spatial distribution is, among other things, a way of generating
knowledge that can subsidize its conservation. Current knowledge
indicates that in the upper-Amazon region they seem to prefer
lakes, where there are larger concentrations of aquatic
macrophytes, their main food source, in the raining season.
However, to our knowledge little is known about how they really
use the habitat in other parts of the Amazon. The model developed
in this study uses the positive influence of their main food
source (estimated through another model) and the negative
influence of water current and of riverain communities to generate
a Terrain Numerical Model of the theoretical distribution of the
species in Lake Curuai, PA, during the raining season. Some of its
limitations are discussed and suggestions for future work are
                         made.",
