avaliada a evolu{\c{c}}{\~a}o temporal destes eventos e
intensas (SPI m{\'e}dio igual a -1,69) no per{\'{\i}}odo
estudado.
recuperar totalmente. ABSTRACT: In the present study the
Standardised Precipitation Index (SPI) was used to identify and
characterize t extreme dry events in Amazonia, which occurred in
the period 1979 to 2014. In addition, it evaluated the temporal
evolution of these events and quantified the dimension of the
affected areas. The results showed that the 1998 drought was one
of the most intense (SPI < -1.69) in the studied period. However,
research characterized 2005 and 2010 as the two major droughts of
the century. Thus, it was also carried out a comparative study of
these droughts. It is suggested that the impact of the droughts
2005 and 2010 be a response to the droughts that occurred in
1993-1994 and 1997-1998. Since, Despite the following years
presenting rainy events the conditions of the droughts occurred in
the 90's were so severe that the florest was not able to fully
recover.",
